WASHINGTON — As the Biden-Harris administration marks the two-year anniversary of President Biden’s signing of the bipartisan infrastructure bill today, the Interior Department released a new analysis that estimates investments from the historic law supported and contributed an average of 17,669 jobs each year Economy benefited $2 billion.
The ministry also published a report on the two-year anniversary, highlighting the key successes, achievements, and personal impacts of the bipartisan infrastructure bill. To honor the President’s Investing in America agenda and highlight these economic contributions, Secretary Haaland is traveling to South Carolina and Iowa this week to highlight new investments to restore and conserve our nation’s lands and waters.
“The bipartisan infrastructure bill is a historic down payment on ensuring that future generations have clean air, drinking water, fertile soil and an overall quality of life that is currently threatened by the worsening climate crisis,” he said Secretary Deb Haaland. “Since President Biden signed the bipartisan infrastructure bill two years ago, we at the Interior Department have been working hard to get these important investments into the hands of American communities as quickly as possible, and we are making tremendous progress in creating jobs, Revitalizing the economy and strengthening climate resilience.”
“At the Department of the Interior, we know that success in implementing the bipartisan infrastructure bill relies on frequent collaboration with federal, state, tribal, local and union leaders and their communities,” he said Infrastructure coordinator Winnie Pierceberg. “Over the last two years, we have worked to bring together as many voices as possible to ensure these programs deliver for the American people. Today’s reports show we are delivering real results as President Biden envisioned, creating good-paying jobs and growing the economy from the bottom up.”
President Biden’s Investing in America agenda aims to grow America’s economy from the bottom up and middle – from rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure to spurring over $600 billion in investment in the private manufacturing sector and in clean energy in the United States to creating good-paying jobs and construction, a clean energy economy that combats climate change and makes our communities more resilient.
The bipartisan infrastructure bill provides a total of $28.1 billion over 15 years for the department’s initiatives, including addressing legacy pollution, restoring critical habitat, addressing the drought crisis, assisting in wildfire suppression and supporting Communities preparing for extreme weather events.
Since President Biden signed the law in November 2021, the Department has accomplished, among other things:
- Dedicating over $8 billion to nearly 1,500 projects across the country and launching an interactive map to track these investments.
- Establish a new orphan well program office to ensure effective, responsible, and efficient implementation of the new orphan oil and gas well remediation program on federal, state, and tribal lands.
- Reveals a Recovery and Resilience Framework Directing the over $2 billion in investments from the bipartisan Infrastructure Act and the Inflation Reduction Act to restore our nation’s lands and waters,
- Launched a voluntary, community-led relocation initiative with over $135 million in federal commitments to support tribal communities severely impacted by climate-related environmental threats.
- In collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, a joint firefighter behavioral health program was established to support the health and well-being of firefighters
- Grant matching requirements have been waived for American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands to reduce the financial burden on U.S. territories that have access to this funding.
