Biden’s approval rating is 41%, Americans worried about economy – Reuters/Ipsos

WASHINGTON, Jun 7 (Reuters) – US President Joe Biden’s public approval rating has hovered at 41% in recent days, near the lowest level of his presidency, but following tense negotiations with Republicans in Congress over the federal government’s debt little changed, reports Reuters/Ipsos survey found.

The four-day poll, which ended Monday, showed a slight increase in Biden’s popularity compared to last month, when 40% of respondents said they approve of his performance since taking office in January 2021. The error rate of the survey is three percent points.

The economy remained the biggest concern as inflation rates were high and central bankers tried to contain prices by raising interest rates, making mortgages and car loans more expensive.

Democrat Biden last week agreed to suspend a limit on Bunds after weeks of talks with US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, the top Republican elected official. The deal averted the financial disaster that would have ensued if the government had been forced to default on all its bills.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll found that only 27% of Americans approve of the way McCarthy does his job.

About 56% of respondents supported sending more US arms and financial aid to Ukraine in the war against invading Russian forces, about the same percentage as in a February poll.

However, this support is not evenly distributed between the two political parties. About 73% of Democrats said they favor more aid, compared to 44% of Republicans.

The Reuters/Ipsos survey collected responses from 1,056 adults from a nationally representative sample.
