Biden will address economy twice today as recession talk follows GDP report

President Joe Biden is set to speak twice on economic issues Thursday after a report intensified debate over whether the US has slipped into recession. Biden is scheduled to address Congressional Democrats’ new $739 billion anti-inflation package at 12 p.m. Eastern and again at 2:15 p.m. on the economy when he meets with corporate executives. Biden’s comments will come after the administration said the US economy shrank 0.9% annually in the second quarter, marking the second consecutive contraction. The Biden administration has argued that the US is not in a recession, but with the November midterm elections approaching, Republicans are blaming Democrats for slowing growth.
