WASHINGTON, DC – Today Home Secretary Deb Haaland, Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su, Environmental Protection Agency Chief of Staff Dan Utech and other key stakeholders attended an event on Good Jobs in the Clean Economy, with leaders from the fields of labour, conservation and environmental justice at to discuss how their agencies are working together to create quality jobs in infrastructure, clean energy, manufacturing and technology as part of the President’s Investing in America agenda.
During the event, Minister Haaland and Acting Secretary Su signed one Memorandum of Understanding Foster collaborative efforts between the two agencies to build sustainable career paths that meet industry needs for talent and workers need for quality jobs. The partnerships will allow both divisions to share resources and expertise to guide their actions to achieve their shared goals of creating an equal and diverse workforce while taking meaningful action to combat climate change.
“Using funds from the President’s Investing in America agenda, we are making historic resources available to the American workforce across our country that support conservation, cleanup of contaminated sites, outdoor recreation and our collective efforts to address the climate crisis,” said he Secretary Deb Haaland. “I am very pleased that our new memorandum of understanding with the Department of Labor will support further collaborative efforts that help us harness the strength and creativity of every worker in America.”
“The benefits made possible by our partnership will show that we don’t have to choose between good jobs and climate protection, when in fact we can achieve both,” he said Acting Secretary Julie Su. “The Investing in America agenda offers us a historic opportunity to put workers first and take action to address climate change and other environmental challenges. It also allows us to engage workers and communities that are historically backward.”
With the “Bidenomics” strategy, the Biden-Harris administration is growing America’s economy from the middle up — from rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure to fostering over $500 billion in investment in private manufacturing and clean energy in the United States, creating good-paying jobs and building a clean energy economy that will fight climate change and make our communities more resilient. The government is making a one-time investment in America’s infrastructure and our clean energy future, and is taking the next steps to bring offshore wind power to more areas across the country.
Since day one of the Biden-Harris administration, the Department of the Interior has been at the forefront of creating high-paying clean energy jobs, including jobs related to preserving and restoring public lands and waterways, reducing the risk of wildfires, and fighting the elimination of toxic ones contaminated sites, improving access to recreational opportunities and building new onshore and offshore clean energy projects.
