Americans Say Economics, Roe v. Wade decision are the top voting motivations as halftime approaches

BOSTON- Harvard Square voters told Fox News that the economy and access to abortion are among their top priorities ahead of November’s midterm elections.

“I think if something like Roe v. Wade would be overturned” and “what the leaked memo was going to be the final decision I think that should probably be the top priority for people,” one man, Nick, told Fox News. “It feels like there are few issues that matter as much.”

A draft decision leaked last week suggested the Supreme Court appeared poised to rule Roe v. to overthrow Wade and return control of abortion laws to the states. The Supreme Court issued a statement recognizing the authenticity of the draft and clarifying that it is not a final decision on the matter.

Cassandra, a Massachusetts voter, said she will “continue to support politicians who support women’s rights” as she reconsiders her voting choices for the midterm elections.

If the Supreme Court Roe v. Wade overturns, the decision will not have a material impact on the midterm elections, according to a poll by RMG Research Group released Monday. However, a Washington Post-ABC News poll conducted before the draft was leaked found that a majority of Americans support maintaining the original ruling.

One man, Nick, told Fox News the economy is another top priority. He cited inflation and the “rising cost of living”.

Inflation eased slightly to 8.3% in April but remained near a 40-year high, the Labor Department reported on Wednesday.

“I don’t think the political system can change that much,” Ben said. “I don’t think the United States government is going to play that big of a role in the next decade given the kind of changes that are coming.”
