BACK TO YOU. IN ORDER. THANK YOU, BRIAN. NEW THIS MORNING: BIG NAMES COME THROUGH OUR REGION TO RAISE MONEY FOR A GOOD CAUSE. I’m now joined by PHIL OATES, who organizes the CELEBRITY GOLF CLASSIC. And this is the third year, right? THIRD ANNUAL, YES SIR. YES. TELL ME ABOUT HIS RETURN. Are you excited? I mean, obviously. Yes, I was out of the country until Friday, so I was pretty nervous when I got back. BUT WE FINISHED ALL THE PAIRINGS YESTERDAY AND TODAY WE’RE ASSOCIATING THE CELEBRITIES. IN ORDER. So tell us about some of the big names playing golf this year. WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED THIS YEAR TO HAVE SOME GREAT FOOTBALL FAMOUS. WE HAVE TWO OF THE GREATEST RUNNING BACKS OF ALL TIME. MARCUS ALLEN AND MARSHALL FAULK ARRIVE. If you look at the series about the Lakers, I believe it’s on HBO and Norm Nixon, who played with Mark, played with Magic Johnson. He’s going to be really excited and really blessed here. CEDRIC. THE ENTERTAINER AND ANTHONY ANDERSON WILL BE HERE PLAYING GOLF THE WHOLE TIME. AND WE HAVE SOME OTHER ENTERTAINERS AND IT’S JUST A GOOD GROUP. IS IT ALWAYS DIFFICULT TO MATCH NORMAL PEOPLE WITH FAMOUS? I bet there’s something like, “No, I want to play golf with him,” you know, Mr. ALLEN, OR SOMETHING SUCH. Well, you know, we go to the people who are the bigger sponsors and we give them the choice and just work our way down. You know, the people of SACRAMENTO are great people and I have no problem with that. Most of them are just happy to be there. AND WE HAD A GREAT EVENT. YES. And most of them have been there since day one and it’s not as bad as you think. WHERE DO YOU PLAY ON THE GOLF COURSE? NORTHRIDGE. OH! VERY NICE. VERY NICE. MADISON, you’re having a big VIP reception, and I know that many of these sponsors are making large donations to an incredible cause. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BENEFITS HERE? CHARITY? Well, what we did is I went to a major sponsor and said, “Let’s find a charity and let’s give half of your sponsorship money to that charity.” SO WE HAVE THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION, BY KEVIN NAGLE SPONSORED BY OUR COMPANY, BUZZ OATS, SPONSORED SAINT JOHN’S DESTINY AND SPONSORED DESTINY COMMUNITY CENTER. And we have a lot of them, we have about nine charities this year and you’ve raised about how much so far. We raised 280,000. IN OUR FIRST YEAR WE COLLECTED 400,000 LAST YEAR AND WE WILL RAISE HALF A MILLION THIS YEAR. So we should be there for a cool half a million dollars. IN ORDER. Swinging clubs and rubbing shoulders with the stars are part of the third annual Phil Oates Celebrity Golf Classic, which begins Sunday. On October 15th and 16th, golfers and celebrities will gather at Northridge Country Club in Fair Oaks to play a round of 16 that will benefit various communities in the Sacramento area, with a focus on organizations that help disadvantaged youth. Charities receiving donations include St. John’s Program for Real Change, the American Heart Association and Battlefields to Ballfields. Organizer Phil Oates says he is excited to host the event for the third time, adding they are on track to raise $1 million this year. One of the highlights is bringing local golfers together with celebrities as they play 18 holes of golf. Big names playing this year include Ronnie Lott, Marcus Allen and Marshall Faulk.
