After filming his latest series, Tom Holland announced that he plans to take a year off from acting.
The actor previously starred and executive produced the psychological thriller series The Crowded Room, which premieres June 9 on Apple TV+. In an interview, he told Extra the role was a “rough time” and the show made him discover some emotions he’d never experienced before.
“The show broke me,” he said in an interview. “There came a time when I was like, ‘I need a break,’ and I left, I went to Mexico for a week, spent some time on the beach, and laid back. Now I’m taking a year off and that’s because of how difficult this show was.”

The Crowded Room also stars Amanda Seyfried and Emmy Rossum. According to Apple TV+, the miniseries tells the story of a man who is arrested after a “shocking” crime in Manhattan in the summer of 1979.
Holland is best known for his role in the Spider-Man series as the title character, whose true identity is the teenage Peter Parker. He also played the role of Peter in other Marvel films such as Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Avengers: Endgame, and his debut in Captain America: Civil War.
According to IMDb, Holland is set to star in another Spider-Man movie and an undated biopic about Fred Astaire in 2024, alongside The Crowded Room.
Holland likes the “responsibility” of introducing a Hollywood legend to a younger generation, he previously told USA TODAY’s Brian Truitt in reference to the biopic. “Plus it’s just nice for me to put my tap shoes back on,” said the actor, who got his start in a West End production of Billy Elliot The Musical.
“We’re still in the very, very early stages of finding directors, which is really exciting. It’s also very stressful. I miss the days when you get a job and you just tell me who you work with.”
