These Celebrities Had Parents Diagnosed With Breast Cancer

Countless celebrities are impacted by parents with breast cancer as the search for a cure continues.

Normani has been vocal about her mother’s struggle with the disease in the past, and recently opened up about the “helpless” feeling she felt following her mother’s second diagnosis in 2020.

“I was in Los Angeles when I found out my mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer again. My family was back in Houston. Three weeks earlier, when I was visiting my mother’s home, she hugged me and expressed how scared she was,” Normani wrote in one ell Comment posted on October 7th. “She had a gut feeling about the results. I felt incredibly helpless because I couldn’t heal her.”

“When a close relative has been diagnosed with breast cancer, you have to honor both experiences: the one who perseveres and the one who is doing their best to support them,” the singer said. “My mother is incredibly independent and self-sufficient, so it was really painful to see her collapse and become unable to function.”

Normani’s mother did her last lap Chemotherapy in August 2021 and is still in remission.

The 26-year-old actress said her family is now maximizing “every single moment” and prioritizing “actually living rather than just existing.”

“My mother’s diagnosis taught me that it’s so important to identify early and not take anything for granted,” says Normani said the drain.

Alicia Keys

In 2017, Alicia Keys shared that her mother, Terria Joseph, is a breast cancer survivor.

The singer opened up about her mother’s battle with the disease in a conversation with fashion designer Stella McCartney to raise awareness of a collection benefiting medical treatment for breast cancer.

“So I show my support by wearing Stella’s Ophelia Whistling lingerie set,” says Keys said in a clip with the designer. “A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Memorial Sloan Kettering Breast Examination Center in Harlem, which is very important to me. I grew up in Harlem so this really appeals to me. Also, my mom is a breast cancer survivor, and I don’t think I’ll ever really have to tell that story.”
