The Degradation of Female Celebrities Needs To Stop

Some may argue that by becoming a celebrity, a person gives up some privacy and autonomy over their life.

While there may be some truth to that, no one deserves to be exposed and dragged through the mud while going through a rough patch. Cara Delevingne has been in the eye of the storm lately.

Last week, the 30-year-old model and actress was spotted acting strangely on her way to Los Angeles’ Van Nuys Airport. recordings and photos Showing Delevingne barefoot and acting rather odd as she gets on the plane with her team. However, something happened that caused them to get off the plane and exit the airport in a black SUV.

What broke the camel’s back was actress Margot Robbie, a close friend of Delevingne’s, left the British star’s home visibly distraught. There is talk in the tabloids of an alleged mental health and substance abuse intervention for Delevingne.

Now that we have some context, enough gossip. As much of a media consumer as I am, raising myself to write about pop culture was particularly difficult. Delevingne’s media coverage is absolutely disgusting and makes my stomach turn.

As uncomfortable as I am, I cannot ignore the constant abuse of women struggling with mental health issues. I feel like seeing things like this has become so normal that we don’t even think about reacting anymore. I’ve decided to shed some light on this because this isn’t the first or last time this has happened.

People give their unnecessary opinions on how famous women should behave when they are disrespected, shed a few pounds, give their abuser a chance, answer very personal and uncomfortable questions, smile and act in their little golden cage like as they are told.

In Delevingne’s case, she has been in the modeling industry since she was 10, but was officially signed to a modeling agency when she was 17. She was struggling with severe anxiety and depression at the time Harper Bazaar.

In a time when everyone has no idea what they’re doing, I can only imagine how overwhelmed Delevingne must have felt as cameras followed her everywhere, doing things she might not want to do, while still being critical Media eye on her all the time.

In a field of work that expects the impossibility of perfection, aspiring models might submit Anxiety, depression, eating disorders, sexual harassment and financial abusejust to name a few glitches.

The more a celebrity seems to make a spectacle of themselves, the more fun the media enjoys. Delevingne is mocked at an extremely difficult time in her life. That’s what countless tabloids have done to female celebrities over the years, particularly because women often have higher standards than their male counterparts.

Emotional women are a circus, a show not to be missed, a cannon that will make a good headline and sell because the media sees women as objects. They expose themselves to the world to pick and take until there’s nothing left.

buzz feed has compiled a compilation of 15 known female celebrities who have been abused by the media. I can assure you these are just a few examples of the plethora of women who have had to move heaven to try to end the abuse against them.

Yet all people in public must bear the burden of constant scrutiny, criticism, and shame for acting of their own free will. We often forget that celebrities are still human beings, making mistakes that feel and hurt just like the rest of us.

Our culture has led us to think that materialistic things and consumerism are the way to happiness. While the goods you buy might ease your negative emotions, they won’t make up for the inner turmoil you’re experiencing.

For all the riches and celebrity that comes with celebrity, famous people are individuals who should not be put on a pedestal because, believe it or not, they struggle too.
