The internet has been buzzing with concern for actor Jamie Foxx who is recovering from a medical complication. However, very little has been shared publicly about the 55-year-old’s condition.

In April, the Foxx family revealed on Instagram that the actor “had a medical complication” and was recovering in a post shared by his daughter Corinne, who has since been removed from the platform. Foxx later made a brief statement of his own on Instagram, without much context about what was going on with his health.

USA TODAY has contacted Foxx’s representation numerous times since announcing his complication and has been unable to obtain any further information.

While much of Foxx’s situation remains private, here’s everything we know about his health and what’s been shared so far.

Jamie Foxx:“On the road to recovery” after “medical complications”, reveals daughter Corinne

What happened to Jamie Foxx?

In her now-removed Instagram post — a statement announcing Foxx’s medical complication — Corinne said her father is recovering.

“Fortunately, with quick action and great care, he is already on the mend,” the statement said. “We know how much he is loved and appreciate your prayers. The family requests privacy during this time.”

Corinne Foxx was the writer and executive producer of the Netflix series Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!, which starred her father. The actor opened up about his close relationship with his daughters Corinne, 29, and Annalize Bishop, 14, in his book Act Like You Got Some Sense: And Other Things My Daughters Taught Me, released in October 2021.

What has Jamie Foxx said about his health?

Foxx first spoke up in May. The “Ray” star took to Instagram on May 3 to thank his followers for their concern and encouragement weeks after announcing his daughter Corinne.

“Appreciate all the love!!!” he wrote in his short post, which included a hands emoji, a heart and a fox emoji. “Feeling blessed.”

His post received ample support from fans and friends, with tens of thousands of comments featuring heart emojis and messages of encouragement.

But the post was also met with some skepticism. Trying to guess what he might be going through, some users brought up their own medical experiences. And others said they don’t trust the text-based post. They wanted to see his face and hear him speak before accepting that he really is on the mend.

Kevin Hart, Nick Cannon and more celebrities show their support for Foxx

Celebrity friends of Foxx, including Kevin Hart and Nick Cannon, have supported the actor amid his health concerns.

While appearing on YouTuber Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast earlier this month, Kevin Hart shared that while he’s not privy to the “exact details” of Foxx’s situation, he knows the actor is recovering.

“I think the great thing is that he’s getting better in his situation and everyone’s prayers, everyone’s love, everyone’s energy, all that stuff is being seen and felt,” Hart said. “You just want the guy to get out of the situation and come home.”

Foxx’s friend Nick Cannon, who will fill in for the actor as the host of Fox game show Beat Shazam, previously gave an update on Foxx’s condition in an interview with Entertainment Tonight published on April 23.

“Man, I’m praying,” Cannon said. “I literally prayed out loud. Words of affirmation for my big brother. I know he’s doing so much better.”

Actor Jamie Foxx has recovered from an unspecified medical complication.

Cannon added: “He’s awake. They say he’s alert, so we love it. That’s family right there.”

And commenting on Foxx’s singular post since the news broke, many famous fans including Courteney Cox and John Legend each posted praying hands emojis. “Yeah!!!! Take the time you need brother!!!!” Kenan Thompson commented while Mary J. Blige wrote “Love you Jamie” with a heart necklace.

Jamie Foxx has kept his personal life quiet in the past, including his previous relationship with Katie Holmes

Foxx has been notoriously private about his personal life over the years.

As Hart mentioned on the podcast, Foxx keeps much of his personal life under wraps. So it’s not surprising that he might not share the details of his medical situation with the public.

An example of his efforts to maintain his privacy was his six-year relationship with Katie Holmes. The pair have never publicly confirmed they are a couple, instead posing for pictures together at the Met Gala in 2019, in a sort of nod to their long-rumored relationship. At the time, Corinne, then 25, told People magazine the two stars were “really happy” together.

Holmes and Foxx were first linked as a couple in 2013, not long after Holmes’ divorce from Tom Cruise in 2012. Stories of their relationship kept bubbling up, and by 2015 People and Us Weekly reported that Holmes had started spending time at Foxx’s house to spend in Los Angeles after moving from New York. In 2017, the couple was photographed walking hand-in-hand on a Malibu beach. Rumors of the couple’s split surfaced in 2019.

“Jamie has always been a private person to some extent,” Hart said on the podcast.

Foxx has an extensive body of work, including credits such as Collateral, Django Unchained, and Dreamgirls. And he also has a lot of new work coming out soon.

That list includes Back in Action, the flick that brought Cameron Diaz out of retirement last June to star alongside Foxx in the upcoming Back in Action movie, which IMDb says is currently in post-production.

Foxx broke the news of Diaz’s return on Twitter by posting a recording of a three-way conversation between Diaz, Foxx and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady.

“Cameron, I hope you’re not upset that I recorded this, but there’s no going back now. Had to call the GOAT to bring back another GOAT,” tweeted Foxx, who co-starred in the 2014 film Annie with Diaz.
