Cmedian Pete Davidson gets into a verbal fight PETA about his recent dog purchase and responded to the animal rights group’s criticism with a voicemail filled with profanity.
Pete’s heated message was aimed at Daphna NachminovitchPETA Senior Vice President, Cruelty Investigations, who had expressed disappointment with his decision to buy a puppy instead of adopting one from a shelter. In the voicemail, Pete challenges Daphna’s testimony as “uneducated and premature.” He emphasizes that he chose a Cavapoo, a nearly hypoallergenic breed, because of his allergies. Pete clarifies that the dog was meant for his mother, who recently lost her previous pet.
Although he stood by his actions, Pete explains that his outburst was out of grief. However, Pete’s voicemail quickly turns into a barrage of swear words. He urges Daphna to do thorough research before speaking to the media and makes a vulgar suggestion affecting himself.
PETA stands firm, stating, “If Pete had done his research, he would know that there is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog, that at least a quarter of the dogs in shelters are purebred, and that Petfinder has entries for homeless dogs of all breeds below, including the Sun.” the one he bought.
Pete justifies his behavior
When asked about the voicemail, Davidson admits he wasn’t aware he could “adopt a specific hypoallergenic dog.” He explains that he has been told that this is not an option or is extremely rare.
Pete expresses his anger by emphasizing the emotional toll his family has taken after the loss of his mother’s dog. He notes, “I haven’t seen my mom and sister cry like that in over 20 years. I was trying to cheer up my family.”
He also expresses his dissatisfaction with the store filming him without consent and claims that PETA’s public criticism has exacerbated her grief. Although he admits his poor choice of words, he stands by his decision to defend himself and his family.
