Patrick Mahomes says Travis Kelce is the friend he always knew.
Mahomes, 28, told reporters on Wednesday that Kelce, 34, was not seeking attention or fame.
“Travis has always been Travis,” the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback said of his teammate, NBC Sports reports. “He’s still Travis Kelce.”
“He will still walk around the stadium and treat every single person like they are his best friend. And that’s how he’ll be in the locker room every day.”
Despite Kelce's new romance with pop star Taylor Swift, his recent hosting gig on Saturday Night Live in March 2023 and a cameo appearance in October, Mahomes explained that the tight end has been “just himself the whole time.”
The two-time Super Bowl MVP told reporters that he was particularly happy for his teammate while hosting SNL. “It was really, really cool,” Mahomes said. “It was a dream of his.”

Kelce was a fan of the variety show and quoted the show's sketches in the locker room “for years,” Mahomes said, adding that Kelce told him to watch the sketches for a while.
“He told me the ones from before I was born,” Mahomes told reporters. “I thought, 'Trav, I'm not as old as you, I don't even know who that is.'”
Mahomes then suggested the possibility that Kelce “could do more things like that after he's done playing football.”

Mahomes previously praised Swift, 34, and her relationship with Kelce. In an interview with CBS Mornings, he revealed that when Swift and Kelce first met, “everyone stayed away” and “just left.” [Kelce] do what he did.
“Then he started taking Taylor over and he realized what a cool person she was and is, and so we had a few jokes here and there in the beginning,” Mahomes admitted.

But now, “It’s just part of Chiefs Kingdom,” he said. “And she’s part of the team.”
“She's at the top of her game, and to see her drive and get that – dude, it's really cool to hear about it and see it, and now I get to see it firsthand through Brittany and Travis' eyes .” ” Mahomes added.
Mahomes, Kelce and the Chiefs play the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on CBS.
