Oprah Winfrey, Paris Hilton among celebrities slammed for their ill-toned posts on Maui wildfires

Hawaii continues to battle the devastation caused by the wildfire that destroyed Maui’s historic town of Lahaina, bringing the death toll to 99.

As celebrities like Auli’i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Momoa try to reach out to their fans and followers for resources and support, several other stars have come under fire for their numb behavior in the situation.

Former talk show host and author Oprah Winfrey has been convicted of attempting to take a film crew to an evacuation center housing survivors of the Maui wildfire.

Winfrey was allowed to visit the center while her crew was asked to stay outside, according to a post from the county of Maui.

“Your visit to the shelter today was truly heartwarming and we appreciate your understanding of our policy of not having camera crews or reporters accompanying dignitaries and celebrities at our shelters,” read a Facebook post from the county of Maui.

Although the situation was resolved positively, many commenters criticized Winfrey’s behavior and praised the shelter for adhering to its guidelines.

“The media has very little respect and morality. Thank you for standing up for those suffering,” one commenter wrote, while another added, “Excellent decision!! Appalling behavior! Wow!”

The talk show host’s social media post about her plans to make a “large donation after the smoke and ash clears” on Maui also sparked anger among people. Many have demanded that she return the Maui land she owns to the native Hawaiians.

Musician Stevie Nicks also received backlash after writing about how the wildfire ruined her niece’s Hawaii vacation.

“As I’m sure you’ve heard, the island of Maui, where I’ve had a home since the ’80s, and a small village, a town, the most magical place on earth, Lahaina, has burned to the ground in recent years couple of days,” the singer wrote.

Musician Stevie Nicks also received backlash for her ill-toned post, in which she discussed how the wildfire ruined her niece’s Hawaii vacation.

“And to make matters worse, my young niece, her husband and young son had just arrived for a much-needed vacation before her school year started.”

Nicks has been criticized for focusing on her niece’s spoiled holiday while many people lost many more.

“Oh Stevie I love you but native Hawaiians lost their homes for generations to come your niece at best the vacation was ruined this is not what you should have posted,” one commenter wrote, condemning their actions .

“You could have at least pointed resources to help everyone whose homes have been lost instead of just focusing on your family’s vacation and your Lahaina experience,” added a second.

Another celebrity under criticism is socialite Paris Hilton and her husband Carter Reum. Hilton was photographed vacationing on the beaches of nearby Maui.

According to the Daily Mail, Hilton and her family are staying at a resort just 30 miles from the devastating wildfire that razed an entire town.

Although the heiress herself has not shared any pictures from her vacation, many took to social media to refute her actions.

A source close to Hilton told the Daily Mail: “She absolutely helped. Maui has always had a special place in her heart. She has collected supplies and taken them to shelters and to those in need. It has already done so and will continue to do so.”

Honolulu-born Nicole Scherzinger’s post with a selection of swimwear photos also angered her fans, as many questioned her approach to flaunting her glamorous life while her home country was ablaze.

She later posted a video urging people to donate to the Hawaii Red Cross to help communities on Maui.
