Nail Art Trends Celebrities Are Rocking on Hollywood Red Carpets – The Hollywood Reporter

The sh -es of autumn 2021: claws, coffins and stilettos

Extreme lengths are what nails now achieve, like Cynthia Erivo at the Met Gala (where she rocked crystal-covered silver claws) and the Emmy Awards, where New York nail artist Gina Oh gave her a new take on a ‘French manicure’ 90s, which gives the look a “modern touch in a very elongated coffin sh -e with a swirling design in a new dark brown – perfect for your complexion”.

Also seen at the Emmys: other lovers of stiletto-like nails, including Michaela Jaé Rodriguez; Emma Corrin, whose black claws pierced fingerless gloves; and Taraji P. Henson, who wore sharp burgundy nails adorned with Swarovski crystals from Hollywood manicurist Temeka Jackson.

A few days earlier, Henson wore two different sh -es of nails at the Met Gala. “She carried a hand stiletto and the other a thin coffin,” says Jackson, who took three hours to create the look. “We made enc -sulated art with a silver dimension to add depth to the nails. There were 3D black roses handcrafted in the UK by artist Glam Susie, surrounded by Swarovski crystals, and a diamond ring pendant that slides on the nail with gunmetal chrome lacquer on their toes. ”(Jackson, to the Alicia Keys, Wiz Khalifa and Saweetie also count, presented their individual CustomTNails collection in 2020.)

Nail artist Brittany Boyce warns, however, that the length of the red carpet may not translate well into reality: “Anything too sharp, especially when you go on vacation in dark colors, creates witch-like vibes. Maybe okay around Halloween, but hopefully not much longer! “

The hot shadows of the moment

Chrome colors are on the radar of Hollywood manicurist Kimmie Kyees and her clients: “Adele is now wearing bronze-colored chrome. Rihanna has her toes chrome-plated [a new shade for her]. She has literally worn white on her toes for as long as I can remember and it never changes color, ”says Kyees, noting that her client Valentino Beauty used Pure Gel Polish 100. “I didn’t do Lil Nas X for the Met, but it was all chrome plated and we did silver chrome for its album cover. I just did a Chrome French on Iggy Azalea. So it’s one thing. “

Jackson agrees, “The Met Gala was the most chrome nails I’ve ever seen in my career!” She also references the comeback of the airbrush stripes, dots and swirls of the 90s and a variety of plaids, charms for the holiday , Chocolate tones and enc -sulated sparkles and leaves.

Meanwhile, Harry Styles’ British manicurist Jenny Longworth is a fan of Polish colors that “go with your must-have accessories”. For example: “Match your nails to your Birkin with the new Orange Boîte nail polish from Hermès, which is reminiscent of the brand tone of the house.” Or try Bottega by The Gel Bottle Inc (sold only to professionals), a shade that which resembles the characteristic green of Bottega Veneta. “The perfect complement,” says Longworth, “with your favorite cassette bag or stretch sandals.”

The guys with gorgeous man-i-cures

Gender-inclusive nail art is becoming more and more a matter of course for men on the red carpet, from Harry Styles and Lil Nas X to Ben Platt, Lil Yachty and Machine Gun Kelly.

Kelly will launch his own line of unisex nail polishes, UN / DN LAQR, next month.

Nail artist Boyce – who takes care of Kelly and Megan Fox’s claws and launched her Nails of LA press-ons and wr -s in 2020 – notes that the r -per’s signature only paints one hand. In May, she created his wavy black -white plaid design and Fox’s coordinating edgy French manicure (a trend in itself) for the Billboard Music Awards, as well as its exaggerated claws for the IHeartRadio Awards. “We created something that goes with everything from his black leather jacket to his neon pink outfits,” says Boyce. “I bought as many spikes and chains as I could find and put everything together.”

And at the Met Gala in September, Platt equipped his Christian Cowan denim with long nails in a swirl of four shades of blue.

“It was Ben’s idea to use negative spaces with blue colors in the design,” says manicurist Michina Koide, who spiked his nails and used four shades of blue. “It was the first time he had his nails done, and now he’s an absolute professional.”

New this fall is Côte’s limited-edition nail polish duo, Dear Evan Hansen, $ 30 with $ 4 of every purchase donated to the Jed Foundation for suicide prevention.
