Monica Responds To Patrick Howley’s Racist Comments About Black Celebrities Attending The CMT Awards
Monica had time early Wednesday to respond to reporter Patrick Howley following his disturbing comments about the presence of black celebrities at this year’s CMT Awards.
After this year’s show, Howley made disturbing comments as he spoke about the black community while clips of Anthony Mackie, who served as one of the show’s hosts, played in the background. He said,
“I don’t know who this black guy is hosting it, it’s supposed to be country music … no offense I mean, you’ve got hip-hop and basketball.” Just fly with your flock, brother. I’m not against you, but you’re up here like the melanized people invented country music. We were doing in Wakanda before Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard stole black country music.’”
Howley sat down on his platform to say there were so many black people unrelated to the music genre at this year’s awards ceremony before saying country music was different and not Wakanda.

Monica, who was also present at this year’s awards show when she appeared alongside Jimmie Allen and Little Big Town, shared a headline from The Source that read, “White Reporter Slams Anthony Mackie & Monica For Attending CMT Awards,” spelling it out it politely Howley in his place.
She said,
“I’ve never been so motivated. Patrick Howley, while your sentiments are likely to be shared by some, the masses are NOT! I have an LEGENDARY all star team of true country artists currently working with me, that would make a difference! Because of the sincere hearts of @lesliefram1 & @cmt… I shared the stage with @jimmieallen & @littlebigtown… This was the first of many times you’ll see me! I see you noticed that my skin is melanized but you missed that it was hard! I am rooted in the Word and built for eternity!”
CMT showed their support to Monica and commented on her post by saying:
“We love you. Your performance on the show with @jimmieallen and @littlebigtown was magical. AND we can’t wait for new music from you soon.”
As previously reported, Monica opened up about work on a country album last year and shared that she’s loved the music genre since she was a little girl.
