It’s almost time for fashion’s biggest night to roll out its red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, where celebrities will unveil some of the industry’s most iconic designs at the 2023 Met Gala.
Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour returns to her annual duties as co-chair alongside pop star Dua Lipa, screenwriter Michaela Coel, actress Penelope Cruz and tennis star Roger Federer. The live stream hosts also include several familiar faces: Saturday Night Live’s Chloe Fineman, MTV star La La Anthony and journalist Derek Blasberg, and special correspondent, YouTube personality Emma Chamberlain.
The upscale event begins with countless stars walking the red carpet in this year’s Met Gala themed “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” The Costume Institution exhibition honors the last German fashion designer to create stunning looks for A-list brands such as Fendi, Chanel and Balmain.
Before the annual event, several stars prepared for the high-class night for weeks. Actress Elle Fanning gave fans a snippet of what her incredible outfit choices would entail.
“I had an idea pretty quickly, I have to say,” the Girl From Plainville star told Variety. “I sketch everything, so to speak, so I made a little sketch – in homage to Karl Lagerfeld, of course. I really go on topic. I have a good story behind the look that is special to me. I’m excited.”
Elle also opened up about how it feels to walk the Met Gala red carpet, noting that it’s “amazing”!
“It’s very crowded,” she added. “Honestly, it doesn’t matter who you are. You are all on top of each other. They all get off and they all have to queue.”
In the weeks leading up to the New York event, rumors of Kim Kardashian’s attendance circulated online, with reports saying she would not be appearing. However, the Kardashians star ignored the negative allegations.
At last year’s Met Gala, Kim made the bold and controversial decision to slim down to fit the late Marilyn Monroe’s sparkling Happy Birthday, Mr. President dress. After a super-strict diet, the makeup mogul was able to fit into the relic, and she walked the red carpet with then-boyfriend Pete Davidson.
Since the Met Gala is a chance for celebrity couples to make their official debuts or just end the night with a bang by dressing up together, viewers love the unique — and even downright weird — outfits they pull out each year carry.
