Highlights of Island FanCon, coming to Langford for the first time, include a surprise announcement and fan meet-and-greet with celebrity guests.
Participants can take on the role of their favorite characters, attend various workshops and immerse themselves in the world of fantasy and adventure at the event, which will take place from April 13th to 14th at City Center Park.
Island FanCon is the brainchild of Lonnie Eckardt after attending Prince George's Northern FanCon.
“This is not just a typical event. It’s an opportunity to strengthen culture and opportunity for the city of Langford,” Eckardt said.
“As a Westshore resident, it is so meaningful to me to be able to bring that magic back to where I raised my family.”
The convention will be very similar to the one that has been held in Prince George for over a decade. This event was attended by celebrities such as Bret “The Hitman” Hart, Trica Helfer, Kevin Smith and William Shatner.
Northern FanCon has also maintained a working relationship with the film industry. As a result, feature films, two television series pilots, countless short films, and several music videos have been filmed in the area.
Island FanCon has attracted two major sponsors so far: Viking Sales and Harris Dodge.
“Langford's slogan is 'Where it all Happens,' and I'm excited to see that spirit come together at an event of this magnitude,” said Kyle Bachman, general manager of Harris Dodge. “I’ve seen firsthand the impact FanCon has had on Prince George and I know it will be absolutely huge for the region here.”
A spokesman for Viking Sales said they were pleased to sponsor the Langford event and hoped to provide the town with an unforgettable experience.
“Not only are we full of excitement, but we also have a mountain-sized surprise in store that will take the event to a new level.”
