The first official induction into Saturday Night Live's Five-Timers Club came in 1990, 15 years after the sketch comedy series began. Since then, it has become an iconic part of the series' mythology. When former cast member Kristen Wiig hosted for the fifth time on April 6, 2024, she announced the well-deserved milestone at the start of her monologue and was clearly ready to receive the sweet Five Timers Club jacket.

But soon another member of the Five Timers Club stood up to take the wind out of Wiig's sails: Paul Rudd, whose fifth episode took place during a Covid resurgence in December 2021 (his lack of introductory fanfare has now become a running joke became).
“You know, I also heard a rumor that you might be doing one of those Five Timer sketches with great celebrity cameos,” Rudd probed. “Is there like a script or something I could look at for this?”
“Oh, I’m sorry,” Wiig said to a disappointed Rudd. “I don’t think we do anything like that!”

But during the monologue, a group of celebrity guests quickly turned into a crowd, including Matt Damon (NOT a real Five-Timer), Martin Short (an SNL foursome), former longtime SNL writer and Girls5eva star Paula Pell, three-time host Jon Hamm and Wiig's former SNL castmates Fred Armisen and Will Forte. They all reiterated their belief that the Five Timer's Club wasn't such a big deal anymore.
“I think it's so sweet that you're so excited about a Five Timers jacket,” Pell said to Wiig from her seat in the audience. “But you know, they’re basically handing these out like free maxi pads to everyone.”

SNL two-timer Matt Damon stood up to compliment Wiig, telling her he “grew up watching her on SNL,” while Wiig frowned at the nonsensical math in that statement.
When Wiig questioned the origins of the Five Timers jacket Damon wore, he explained that Lorne Micheals thought his first show “counted for three.”
Wiig turned to Michaels to confirm that it was still an honor, only to find him surrounded by four other friends in undeserved Five Timers Club jackets: Fred Armisen, Jon Hamm, Will Forte and Martin Short.
“I LOVE this,” Hamm enthused as Forte pointed out that “we’ve hosted together five times.”

“My jacket is a little small, isn't it?” Armisen asked, pulling down the hem of his cute crop-top style version.
“Oh, sweet, so we're doing a Five Timers sketch!” Rudd said, appearing on stage.
It felt like a full-circle moment considering Wiig showed up to support Kate McKinnon during her December 16, 2023 episode.
Even Ryan Gosling stopped by to fluff Wiig's Five Timers jacket
As Short, Forte, Hamm, Damon, Rudd and Armisen joined Wiig on stage to finally give her her flowers, accompanied by a sweet serenade – interrupted by Forte screaming, “Oh my God, is that Ryan Gosling?” !”
The three-time Oscar nominee looked confused as he put on his new Five Timers jacket.

“Are you sure?” the Fall Guy star asked Michaels. “I mean, I haven’t even hosted three times, so that seems unfair.”
Gosling made it up to her by helping Wiig put on her new jacket, giving it a quick lint roller. That's the respect SNL legend Wiig deserves.
