Comedian Jo Koy poked fun at the “soft” celebrities who attended the Golden Globes ceremony he recently hosted.
Koy kicked off his comedy world tour Saturday at the Stifel Theater in St. Louis, Missouri, with his first stand-up performance since last weekend's Golden Globes. He offered his takeaways from the awards show and recalled the lukewarm reception he received from the celebrities in attendance when he cracked jokes at their expense.
“Lots of marshmallows, man. They're delicious, but damn, they're soft. I just come from a different time. I see the changes that are happening. I get it, but God, can we fucking laugh at ourselves?” Koy said of the Golden Globes. “I have a feeling none of you fuckers saw it, and I'm kind of happy.”
“Oh my God,” Koy continued. “It feels good to live in this country. We can say whatever we want to say. Don't apologize for it at all. Be able to… express your opinion.”

According to CBS, around 9.4 million viewers tuned in to watch this year's Golden Globes. While this was a 50% increase from the previous year, it was surpassed by its 2020 broadcast with 18.32 million viewers. Since then, the show has no longer managed to reach the 14 million viewership it has had since 1996.
The Golden Globes announced Koy as host for the 81st event less than three weeks before the Jan. 7 event.

Koy was criticized for his performance, which saw him nervously licking his teeth when jokes didn't go down well with the celebrities. One of his jokes was one in which he targeted Taylor Swift for dating NFL tight end Travis Kelce. When the camera switched to the singer, she took a sip of her drink without laughing.
The comedian has released several comedy specials on various platforms. His current tour will last until May.
