It’s the time of Communions and Confirmations and with that comes some interesting styles, haircuts and accessories. Items and looks that we thought were cool at the time.
Those days will be etched in our memories forever, and we can guarantee our parents will make sure everyone can see your outfit.
Because the picture will certainly hang in the kitchen or living room for many years to come, so that everyone can see it, including partners and friends.
EVOKE decided to talk to some Irish celebrities about their big day and we have the photos as proof.
Today FM’s Paula MacSweeney
Not only did we get Paula’s communion, but also her confirmation outfit.

As if butter wouldn’t melt. Paula, who is from Kilkenny, said: “We went to the Tower Hotel in Waterford afterwards. I remember getting FORTY-TWO PUNDS and a watch for Communion!’ Laughing she says ‘kids make hundreds these days!)
With the same hairstyle, Paula looks like she really didn’t want to stand for a photo. I’m sure we all remember how cool we were back then.

For this, Paula Evoke told how she searched her mother’s closet. Laughing and reminiscing, she said, “I remember wanting to take the name Caitlin, but the bishop misunderstood me and confirmed me as Keelin. Oops! My sister Michelle was my sponsor and we both went skiing.’
She continued, “I can’t really remember where we went after that. At that point I lost interest in the Aul religion. But the outfit is great, I was so sporty, I really didn’t feel like it and I was happy to just wear my mum’s blouse.”

She may have run a brothel in Love/Hate, but actress Mary Murray was all sweet and innocent for her communion.
She told EVOKE that this occupied Ger Aunt Ena’s living room or as many of us would be familiar at the time it was called the good room. Only worn on special occasions and of course at Christmas.
She made her communion in 1986 at the local church in Ballyfermot, Dublin.

Fast forward to 1990 and it was confirmation time. We have to say we love the Mary sun hat!
“I was delighted with myself in my new outfit and straw hat. The year was 1990. I was 10 years old, almost 11.”
Back in the days of disposable cameras, she said, “I’m glad to have these pictures. My parents always had the best intentions of taking photos, but they generally forgot to develop the rolls or lost them. Other times the finger was on the lens or the lens was pointing at the sun. There was no way of knowing the photos would ever show a clear picture until you paid for the development.’

And it’s back to the ’90s and boys were all about suits and bowl haircuts. And at communion there is always the family shot. Paul, all smiles jumped out at his mother, father and sister.
Although we have to say the green suits you Paul.
Former Apprentice star Geraldine O’Callaghan

The 80’s was all about headpieces, lace and some parents decided to pass on the style of puff sleeves for their kids’ big day.
Geraldine smiled at everything, but we have to ask: how did she not toast that day? There are many layers.
Sharing the photo with EVOKE, Geraldine told us that she kept her dress over the years and had it made into a christening gown for her daughter Dahlia.
