Daniil Medvedev spoke about the difficulties of controlling his concentration as he spotted the plethora of celebrities attending his recent semi-final victory at the US Open.
Medvedev was in excellent form in his four-set win over Carlos Alcaraz. He remained consistent from the baseline, surprising his opponent with how early he received the ball compared to other games, and he limited errors on his weaker forehand, making that groundstroke seem completely different.
As great as the Russian was during his performance on the pitch, he was just as good afterwards in the post-match press conference. He talked about the fundamentals that had to work for him to win and what was the key to victory.
“Speaking of Carlos: I’m happy because in Indian Wells and Wimbledon he made good use of my return position from behind. I felt like I could even cause him problems coming back from behind and I proved that today.”
During a night game at Arthur Ashe Stadium, there are often a whole host of stars attending the big US Open games. Today was no different as Medvedev jokingly talked about having difficulty maintaining focus due to the presence of some celebrities.
“It’s true there were a lot of celebrities around all the time. I tried to stay focused, but I asked myself, “Who is there?” Who’s next? I think I saw everyone who was there and some of them were pretty.” Big stars. It’s cool to see people enjoying tennis. This is great because this is the sport I love. So when I see the people I see on TV that I’m a fan of, it’s great to see them enjoying such a great game.”
Medvedev is aiming for his second triumph at the US Open, but has to prevail against Novak Djokovic, who won’t get away without a fight.
