Hollywood’s Longest Celebrity Engagements

Stars like Michelle Yeoh, Kate Hudson and Amy Adams know there’s no rush to walk down the aisle. Those who take the time to marry — like Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry — are following in the footsteps of some of Hollywood’s greatest love stories, from Susan and Robert Downey Jr. to Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher.

But not every long engagement ends with a fairytale wedding or lasting love. Between those who made it, those who broke up, and those who are still waiting for their perfect “yes,” see all the celebrities who have celebrated their love on their own timelines.

Michelle Yeoh and her fiancé’s 19-year engagement culminated in an intimate wedding ceremony in Geneva. In July 2023, the Oscar winner and Jean Todt finally married. But according to a message from the couple included in their wedding program (and shared on Instagram by former Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa), their long love story began with a whirlwind.

“We met on June 4, 2004 in Shanghai. On July 26, 2004, JT MY proposed and she said YES,” the show read, revealing how Yeoh and the former Ferrari CEO got engaged after less than two months of dating.

Her note continued: “Today, after 6992 days on July 27, 2023 in Geneva, surrounded by loving family and friends, we are so happy to celebrate this special moment together!”

Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry have been building a life and family together since his lavish helicopter proposal in 2019. They moved in together and had a daughter, Daisy Dove, in August 2020, but the American Idol judge and actor have not yet settled the knot.

A source told PEOPLE the two were set to marry in Japan in the summer of 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic has put their plans on hold. “Katy was actually very excited to be walking down the aisle pregnant,” the insider said. “They were both so thrilled that all the wedding details finally got together, but because of the coronavirus, they’re on hiatus.”

In February 2022, Perry appeared on the radio show Kyle & Jackie O and shared her still-high hopes for a perfectly timed destination wedding. “But every few months it’s like, ‘New variant! New variant! New variant!’ she said, referring to the travel-noisy waves of COVID-19.

“I wanted to be proposed, so I think I worked out exactly what I wanted,” Stewart said. “And she did it. It was really cute. She did very well and we’re totally – we’re getting married. It happens.”

Almost two years later, the couple still has not married. But between birthday posts and public appearances, they continue to celebrate each other and their love.
