On June 14, Tollywood producer KP Choudhary (distributor of Kabali Telugu) was arrested by Hyderabad police for drug possession and an ongoing investigation is underway. Examination of KP Khovdary’s call recordings revealed that he was involved in selling cocaine to numerous celebrities, politicians and prominent figures. It’s not the first time the drug case has rocked Tollywood, but this time the names of small artists have emerged.
Those involved included Tollywood’s senior character artist Surekha Vani, her daughter and big boss sensation Ashu Reddy, revealed from her several months of frequent phone calls with Choudhary. Police are investigating these celebrities’ connection to KP.
Shortly after her name was circulated in the media related to the case, Ashu Reddy promptly expressed her disapproval on her social media page as the investigation continues to uncover the truth.
Authorities confiscated four mobile phones from KP Choudhary and further investigation identified a list of people who bought drugs from him stored on his Google Drive. There are reports that his phone book contains almost 9000 contacts.
Twelve names were mentioned in the pre-trial detention report, including movie stars, models, businessmen, athletes and others. In addition, the report mentions the addition of two film directors and actresses to the list. The pre-trial detention report also contains information on KP Choudhary’s banking transactions, which have been traced.
As the investigation progressed, more details about the case would emerge.
