From Shilpa Shetty to Sachin Tendulkar, Indian celebrities recall their meeting with Queen Elizabeth II

Condolences poured in from around the world in response to the news. Indian celebrities including actors, cricketers, business tycoons and others expressed their sadness and shared memories of their meeting with Her Majesty The Queen.

Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who had met the Queen on several occasions, tweeted: “Sad to hear of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. I have had the opportunity to meet her in person on a number of occasions and it was heartening to see the love and respect people had for her. My deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.”

Sharing a picture of him with the Queen: “When I met the Queen I didn’t want to stand in line like everyone else when I presented her with my epic book #UTSAV. Eventually I got an audience,” chef Vikas Khanna tweeted, adding that her dignity, presence and grace are legendary.

In a series of tweets in Tamil, actor and politician Kamal Haasan recalled the time the Queen visited the sets of his unfinished film Marudhanayagam, the only time she ever visited a film set.

Actress Shilpa Shetty, who won the fifth season of British TV reality show Celebrity Big Brother in 2007, also mourned the Queen. Sharing a picture of her meeting with Queen Elizabeth II on Instagram, she wrote, “What an incredibly inspiring journey your life has been! It was an honor to have been in such distinguished company. Rest in peace, Queen Elizabeth II.”
