Facebook glitch? Users report apparent news feed bug involving posts to celebrities – WPXI

An apparent Facebook glitch left many social media users scratching their heads overnight as comments on celebrity’s pages flooded their newsfeeds, CNET and Forbes report.

“When I scroll down my own feed, all I see are contributions to the official pages of The Beatles, Gorillaz, and System of a Down from people I’ve never met,” CNET reporter Daniel Van Boom wrote in an early post published article Wednesday.

Other users around the world shared similar complaints about Facebook on Twitter, which eventually led to #FacebookHacked becoming a trending topic, according to ITV. Forbes reported there was “no evidence” of a hack.

DownDetector, a website that tracks complaints about popular websites, reported possible issues with Facebook as of 2 a.m. EDT Wednesday. The number of complaints peaked about an hour later, reaching nearly 2,900.

Meta, which owns Facebook, acknowledged the issue in a statement early Wednesday, according to Forbes.

“We are aware that some people are experiencing issues with their Facebook feed,” the statement said. “We are working to get things back to normal as soon as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

Just after 5:30 a.m. EDT, Forbes reported that its staff “couldn’t replicate” the newsfeed issue, while DownDetector only showed 53 complaints about the social media site.
