Blind articles are taking over the internet – and celebrities aren't happy about it. The recent wave of anonymous rumors, particularly on TikTok, has left many stars no choice but to speak out.
Read on to find out which of your favorite celebs have put an end to the rumors.
ICYMI, blind items are anonymous tips from unverified sources that provide insight into the lives of Hollywood stars.
A blind item is essentially Hollywood gossip told through code. The tips often reveal private information behind Hollywood's biggest stars and lead to online speculation about who is who. They cover everything from drinking habits, who's dating who, to no-good activities.
An important rule for blind articles is that they cannot contain the celebrity's name, but they can contain some clues to give readers an idea of who they are.
One of the biggest sources behind these blind articles is Instagram user DeuxMoi – who is basically the real Gossip Girl.
The anonymous Instagram account posts puzzles that come from various sources. Some claim to have worked directly with these celebrities, while others claim they are close friends of the stars in question.
DeuxMoi created a buzz among TikTok users during the 2020 pandemic and has over 2 million Instagram followers. The gossip site has gained tremendous popularity in recent years and released its own book in 2022 titled Anon Pls.
Another account on Instagram is titled “Reveal Moi,” dedicated to readers’ guesses about DeuxMoi’s blind items. The podcasts “Deux U” and “Deux Me After Dark” analyze the gossip writings in detail. There is also a paid newsletter for subscribers that provides more detailed information on all claims.
Despite their increasing popularity, blind items are nothing new. In 1879 William d'Alton Mann founded Town Topics, a magazine that reported on New York's richest people at the time.
According to The Ringer, in December 2018, William had reportedly “hired a network of minions and spies to bring him gossip about high society figures.”
Now that we have the history lesson behind us, Scroll to see which celebrities have disavowed their blind items.
