Karamo Brown, host of the popular Netflix series Queer Eye, will present a course on diversity and inclusion.
The first celebrity EdApp course is held by cave diver John Volanthen.
Used globally in industries ranging from automotive to healthcare, EdApp covers compliance and certifications, as well as onboarding and upskilling. It was even used to coach ball kids for last year’s Australian Open and the United Nations is using it to provide education to vulnerable communities in the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Winterford said the original idea behind the app was to replace a system that often featured content written in the 1980s, sometimes from another continent or by people with no industry experience.
“I don’t think there are a lot of people who are looking forward to doing their on-the-job training. And for the most part, it’s also very ineffective,” he said.
“Traditional training leaves people either sitting in a dark room, crammed into a canteen somewhere, or pointless 90-minute click-click e-learning that we know has terrible engagement rates and effectiveness.”

Also, traditional training has often only been available to the largest organizations, while EdApp can be deployed free of charge to teams of any size.
The introduction of celebrity classes, Winterford said, was designed as an added benefit alongside the platform’s vast library of courses, but would hopefully attract new users as well.
“We have organizations that care about their basic compliance but are looking for ways to streamline their teams,” he said.
“But we also want to make sure that for those stuck in a darkened canteen with PowerPoint, you have content like John, like Karamo, and more to come that makes it an attractive platform. ”
While no other trainers have been announced yet, Winterford said EdApp’s structure has made it attractive for celebrities to share knowledge.
“They understand that their content is being adopted by small teams for free. And that’s a wonderful thing,” he said.
“We will all benefit from organizations of all sizes becoming operationally better.”
