Coco Lee dies at 48: Asian celebrities pay tribute to the pop star who struggled with depression in life

Best known for her hit single Do You Want My Love, the Hong Kong singer is mourned by family, friends and fans

Coco Lee, the acclaimed American singer-songwriter, record producer, dancer and actress from Hong Kong, has died at the age of 48. Her sisters Carol Lee and Nancy Lee announced their deaths on Facebook, adding that she had been in a coma since attempting suicide over the weekend. According to the sisters, the pop star has struggled with depression for a number of years.

The sisters further share that they are focused on caring for their elderly mother and have asked for privacy and prayers during this time.

Born on January 17, 1975, Lee was a prominent figure in Asian pop and later rose to worldwide fame. With a compelling stage presence and powerful vocals, she first launched her career in Hong Kong and then burst onto Taiwan’s Mandopop music scene in 1994 with two hit albums.
