Cindy Morgan, best known for her roles in the early 1980s films “Caddyshack” and “Tron,” died of “natural causes” at the age of 69, according to a report from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office in Florida. died.
Morgan's body was discovered in her bedroom at her Lake Worth Beach home on Dec. 30 after her roommate, who had last seen Morgan alive 11 days earlier, called 911, the sheriff's office told USA TODAY.
The roommate told police she had just returned from a “holiday visit” when she knocked on Morgan's door and received no answer. According to police, the roommate also noticed a “strong smell coming from her room.”
Morgan is believed to have died of “natural causes” without any suspicion of foul play, the sheriff's office said. It is unclear when Morgan died.
Morgan rose to fame after playing the promiscuous Lacey Underall in the 1980 golf comedy “Caddyshack” alongside actors Bill Murray, Chevy Chase and Rodney Dangerfield.
In an interview in 2012, Morgan said: “'Caddyshack' was my first film and I have to say that the final product was so completely different that it was originally about the Caddys.” So I initially had nothing to lose in the audition. It was fun. I just focused on making the person sweat. Look them in the eyes, do what many women can do.”
It wasn't long before Morgan's appearance and mere existence as a woman in what was then a male-dominated industry became the focus of her acting career. In the same 2012 interview, Morgan recalled a conversation with producer John Peters in which he told her that she was “fucked in this business” because she had banned Playboy from taking photos of her on set. Morgan said Playboy came anyway and her “agent didn't care.”
Morgan found ways to fight back. She mentioned that a still of her in “Caddyshack” wearing a FILA shirt without a bra was the most popular photo of herself that she sold to her mostly male fan base. In a separate interview with the Tampa Bay Times, Morgan said, “It was 1979, and women had just burned their bras. “It was a political statement more than anything.”
Morgan is also known for her roles in Disney's original film Tron and the TV series Falcon Crest and CHiPs, among others.
Her most recent role was as the voice of Mason's mother in the 2022 indie film “Face of the Trinity.”
