The internet has completely lost it following the Princess of Wales's surgery and months-long absence from the public eye, and now some notable names have shared their biggest conspiracies about what's really going on with the royal family.
Kensington Palace announced on January 16 that Kate had undergone “planned” abdominal surgery at the London Clinic. While the “operation was successful,” the palace's statement said Kate would not return to public duties until Easter.
Social media was abuzz with theories about Kate's health – and then there was one or more photo debacles. First, on March 4, TMZ published a grainy photo of Kate sitting in the passenger seat of a car next to her mother, Carole Middleton. Kate then shared her photo on social media for Mother's Day in the UK, which made major headlines.

On March 10, Kate uploaded a family photo – which Prince William photographed – by her with the children Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (8) and Prince Louis (5). Some netizens immediately began speculating that the image had been digitally altered, and some major news outlets, including the Associated Press, withdrew the photo.
“Like many amateur photographers, I occasionally experiment with editing,” Kate wrote in a social media statement the following day, addressing the controversy. “I would like to apologize for any confusion.”
While Kate has since been spotted again — she and William were photographed in the backseat of a car on March 11 — royal family watchers continued to ask questions about the princess' whereabouts, and now celebrities have done the same.

John Oliver

The Last Week Tonight With John Oliver host commented on the controversy during a March 12 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen on March 12.
“I was out. I was like, 'Let's all just ignore this, we've moved on,' until the Photoshop thing came,” Oliver said. “It feels like you're almost bad at that point in an impressive way get along.”
Andy Cohen responded and asked, “Isn't her motto: 'Never complain, never explain?'” And then she explains it on Twitter?”
Oliver retaliated with a conspiracy of his own.
“The probability that she died 18 months ago is non-zero,” he speculated. “Maybe in this situation they’ll be at Bernie’s on the weekend. I'm not saying it happened, but I'm saying it's non-zero until proven otherwise. Until we see her sitting there with a copy of the daily newspaper.”
Stephen Colbert
Colbert made some wild statements during The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on March 12 with “some disturbing news” about the royal family.
“Internet experts believe that Kate's absence may be linked to her husband and the future King of England, William, having an affair,” the TV host said, adding that his “sympathies are with poor Kate.”

Colbert went on to say he was “ready to spill the tea, literally” and was drinking from a teacup.
“I think we all know who the alleged other woman is, tell me, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley,” he continued, referring to her Sarah Rose Hanbury. “Now there were rumors of an affair between William and [Rose] since 2019. According to tabloids, at the time, when Kate allegedly confronted him, he “laughed about it and said there was nothing to it.” Aha, always a good answer when your wife accuses you of cheating.”
Although cheating rumors have been circulating since 2019, Kensington Palace never commented on the situation.
Whoopi Goldberg
Goldberg was quick to reprimand her “The View” co-hosts on March 13 when they began sharing theories about Kate. “It’s our fault for getting into this,” she began.
“If you get involved in this stuff, if they start doing it to your family or your kids, that's not cute,” she continued. “This isn't fun. It really irritates me.”
Goldberg directly addressed the image editing controversy.
“I think Kate took a photo and said, 'Oh, his lips look wrong, her butt looks wrong, that looks wrong, let me fix it,'” she added. “I believe she took the photo and passed it on [the Palace] because she wanted to take responsibility for the story being published.”
Goldberg concluded, “This is all speculation and we're having fun. Just know that we know we don't know.”

The host of The View disagreed with Goldberg.
“The media frenzy was dangerous for their family, and they should put out a video saying, 'Hey, I'm fine.' That’s all I need,” she added.

Shortly after video footage was released of Kate allegedly shopping with Prince William at a local farm stand, Cohen quickly took to social media to share his thoughts on the matter.
“That’s not Kate…” the Bravo host tweeted on Monday, March 18.
