There is no reason to rush things when it comes to taking a big step like marriage. According to the American Psychological Association, about 40-50% of first marriages end in divorce. The divorce rate for second marriages is even higher: around 60-67% of second marriages end in divorce. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the percentage of women who believe a young couple should not live together if they are not married has fallen to 28 percent from 34.7 percent in 2002. Men are also increasingly in favor of living together before marriage. Less than 25% think it is problematic, compared to 32% in 2002. Social pressure on couples to marry before moving in together has declined sharply over the past 20 years.
Hollywood about marriage and relationships
For those in Hollywood, there are two options: celebrities get married as often as the seasons, or there are those we thought were eternal bachelors/bachelorettes. Take for example one of the most famous cases: George Clooney. Fans thought he would be single forever after his divorce. Before he met his current wife Amal, the “Ocean’s Eleven” star was married to actress Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993. George admittedly took some time to settle in when he tied the knot in 2014 at the age of 53, revealing that the long wait has given him a level of maturity that makes him the perfect partner for the human rights lawyer. After nearly a decade of marriage, Clooney, now 62, said the couple had never argued. In his older age, George has learned to prioritize the most important things in life. He said in 2022: “Let’s all find things we have in common and not worry about the little things.” The couple have twins Ella and Alexander George, who were born in June 2017.
