When we are presented with a love triangle on the screen, it arouses our curiosity about who the subject will end up with and how the rejected person will react. Personally, for me it’s all about finding out what happens in the end. Films like Mujhse Dosti Karoge or even Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna are love triangle stories. As a viewer, I find it entertaining because it happens a lot in real life. It’s not uncommon for two people to fall in love with the same person. However, the conclusion is the only interesting aspect of this particular scenario.

I feel like a love story is incomplete without a love triangle. Having done more than 100 daily soaps with Ekta Kapoor and alone, I don’t think there has been a single story without a love triangle, even if it is a thriller, a romantic story or a family drama. In fact, we also looked at triangle and square loves. So yes, I think love triangles are the so-called namak required to ensure the dish tastes perfect. Who wants to see the same old stories of parents playing the villain in a love story and creating all sorts of obstacles? The interest becomes even greater if there is another guy or girl in the love story. I get goosebumps just thinking about love triangles. I’ve lived it and breathed it in my shows and I think it works like magic.

Love triangles have been in the news for a long time. Obviously, art represents life, so many of these stories are inspired by real life events. Although the implications are different in real life, such on-screen stories add spice to the narrative and in the end there is usually a message, which is usually either that of sacrifice or the realization of what true love stands for. We must understand that love, a true feeling, is an amalgamation of different character traits. At every age and at every stage of our lives, love means something different, and here we are talking about the opposite sex. However, it depends entirely on the plot whether a love triangle is an option or not.

When it comes to effective storytelling, love triangles actually have some meaning and provide a beautiful experience watching them on screen.

I think the reason audiences love the concept of the love triangle is probably because it’s reality. A boy falling head over heels for a girl who actually likes another boy is a common occurrence. I don’t like such love stories, but I know that many people enjoy watching them on screen just to find out who gets the boy or girl in the end and what happens to the person who is left alone.
