LOS ANGELES — Venus Williams, Spike Lee, Tracee Ellis Ross, Shaquille O’Neal and Killer Mike are among those who will attend a celebration of African American business success and opportunity.

Black Entrepreneurs Day, founded and organized by Shark Tank panelist and FUBU Executive Director Daymond John, will be held on October 27th at the Apollo Theater in New York City and will be streamed live on Johnson’s Facebook page and BlackEntrepreneursDay.com.

In a statement, John said his goal for the third annual gathering is to “inspire, educate, learn from and celebrate those who are hurrying, pushing forward, pursuing their dreams and, in many cases, succeeding.”

The night begins at 7:00 p.m. and includes John’s one-on-one meetings with celebrity and business guests; panel discussions on topics such as building generational wealth and increasing creativity and accessibility; and a “pitch competition” for aspiring entrepreneurs. Rapper Big Sean will conclude the event presented by Chase with a live performance.

Black business owners and entrepreneurs can apply for $25,000 in grants from the NAACP Powershift Entrepreneur Grant program created by John, with the event website open for applications until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday. According to organizers, more than $500,000 in grants were awarded.

“Black Entrepreneurs Day is an invaluable resource for a community that has historically been overlooked in terms of resources and funding. It’s truly economic inclusion for us, by us,” NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson said in a statement.

One of the original stars of ABC’s Shark Tank, John founded global lifestyle brand FUBU and is a motivational speaker and author.
