As the country is engulfed in a flooding crisis recorded as more intense and severe than the previous superfloods of 2010, celebrities have fired on authorities, government and politicians too engrossed in their petty struggles to be appropriate to be measures to protect flood victims from the travesty they are currently being subjected to.
Although a handful of celebrities came forward to raise funds and accept volunteers to help flood victims, they took to their social media to express their desperation and anger to the relevant authorities at not taking the right action, and to lawmakers for failing to perform when the crisis was declared a national emergency.
Actor Yasir Hussain, known for speaking his mind and being open about his views on social media, took to his Instagram platform and questioned the government about their plans on how to deal with the situation, experts claimed in subsequent years become the norm.
The actor also shared the following lines on his Instagram Story: “Rain used to be a mercy and always will be a mercy. Dams on rivers have always been a necessity.”
“This tide can be met with help. What is the plan for next year??? he asked.
‘Mere Paas Tum Ho’ actor Adnan Siddiqui also took to his Instagram to express his frustration at the recent events.
He began his video message by asking people at home and abroad, from whatever profession or industry, to unite to help the flood victims.
“The flood is not from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it is not from Balochistan or Sindh, nor from Punjab, but it is about Pakistan; it is a difficult time for the nation.”
The “Tamasha” host at his post is urging those in charge, the politicians too busy with their own struggles, to get out of politics and think about the public instead of their own agenda.
In addition, the actor added that people are suffering, are in trouble and that we should support them when they need it most.
Siddiqui called on people to donate whatever they can and whatever they could afford to help people during these devastating times.
“We must unite in this cause to save Pakistan as this is a very difficult time,” he said.
Earlier this year, actor Adnan Siddiqui was seen in London meeting ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif while he was in the country to promote his film.
Recent floods have killed more than 1,100 people and brought record rainfall in more than three decades.
An average of 33 million people have been affected by the flood disaster since June. The floods have also caused severe damage, costing at least $10 billion.
People are connecting the dots and concluding that the flooding is due to the lack of dams, which to some extent appears to be the truth. Naveed Iftikhar, a planning and strategy expert, has provided insight into this particular remedy in particular.
In one of his tweets, he claimed that the dams could not have stopped the floods, but an initial warning system and disaster preparedness is the way to deal with this crisis. Also, the inauguration of safe stations for areas or regions that seem most prone to such disasters is also an important point in dealing with such situations.
