Former President Donald Trump is the first former US president to be convicted of a crime. The verdict sparked mixed reactions from celebrities and well-known figures online.
Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection with a $130,000 hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election campaign. Trump pleaded not guilty to all counts in the indictment filed against him by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. He will be sentenced on July 11.
“This was a disgrace. This was a rigged trial by a corrupt judge with conflicts of interest,” Trump told reporters outside the courthouse after the verdict was announced.
“We did nothing wrong,” he added. “I am a very innocent man.”

The verdict of the 12-member jury sparked reactions from figures such as Tucker Carlson, a conservative political commentator who said Trump’s conviction marked “the end of the fairest legal system in the world.”
“Import the Third World, become the Third World,” Carlson wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “We just saw that. This will not stop Trump. He will win the election, unless he is killed first. But it marks the end of the fairest legal system in the world. Anyone who defends this ruling is a danger to you and your family.”
Other celebrities welcomed the conviction, including American actor Rob Reiner, who posted on X: “GUILTY!!!!!”
“Guilty on all counts,” wrote Billy Baldwin, an American actor and producer. “E. Jean Carroll ✅ Stormy Daniels ✅ election tampering, espionage, and incitement of an imminent insurrection.”
“Dear #MAGA,” added writer Don Winslow. “Guilty 34 times. Love, Don Winslow.”
Former Democratic Senator from Minnesota Al Franken also welcomed Trump’s guilty verdict, but noted that the conviction also marks a “sad day” for the United States.
“This is a great day because justice has prevailed; Trump has been found guilty on all 34 counts,” Franken wrote on X. “But a sad day because we have a former president who committed multiple crimes.”
“If this had come out before the 2016 election and they hadn’t bribed Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougall, I think we could have avoided a Trump presidency,” he added. “Now it’s about preventing another Trump presidency.”
