Actress Catherine Kamau, popularly known as Kate actress, and businesswoman Vera Sidika have emerged as celebrity winners of the Africa Women Awards 2023.
Kate actress bagged the title of Best Actress of the Year, triumphing over strong competitors such as Kehinde Bankole, Khanya Mkangisa, Scarlet Gomez, Eve Esin, Ini Edo, Mercy Johnson, Nse Ikpe and Bukunni Oluwasina.
Vera Sidika bagged the Celebrity Sensation of the Year award, triumphing against competitors from Nigeria including Mercy Eke, Cee C, Ilebaye and Hilda Baci (The Chef).
These wins were celebrated by their fans who were impressed by the remarkable performances of Vera Sidika and Kate actress in their respective categories at the Africa Women Awards 2023.
The aim of the Africa Women Awards is to highlight exceptional women across the continent and recognize their achievements in diverse industries and backgrounds.

On Instagram, actress Kate asked her fans to cast their vote and thanked them for the honor.
“Wow… Okay, what a list. My people, should I call my tailor? Is it coming home? Do your thing. The nomination is a great honor. The voting link is in my bio.”
Not deterred by being the only Kenyan candidate against four Nigerians, Vera Sidika confidently declared: “1 Kenyan against 4 Nigerians but we will definitely win!!!” Let’s go. Link to biography.”
Other Kenyan nominees include Kiss FM presenter Sheila Kwambox, Aziza Hashim and King Kalala, all vying for the On-Air Personality of the Year award.
Kwambox secured two nominations and also appeared in the media personality category, which also sees Joy Wayodi and Terry Muikamba nominated.
Content creators Chebet Ronoh, Joy Kendi and musician Brandy Maina are in the running for the Young Creative of the Year award.
Cartoon comedian Jacky Vike is competing for the title of Content Creator of the Year alongside Angel Nyigu from Tanzania, Miss Ezeani from Nigeria and others.
DJ Pierra is competing against, among others, DJ Zinhle and TXC from South Africa as well as DJ Mamie from Tanzania for the “DJ of the Year” award.
Actresses Brenda Wairimu, Mange Kimambi and Lynn Ngugi are vying for the Young Woman of the Year award, while Claudia Naisabwa is nominated for the TV Personality of the Year award.
