It’s been a big week for formal fashion. Whether they just went to galas, film screenings or the annual Tony Awards last night, stars have had many evening occasions to dress up in recent days. That meant a bevy of clothes—tons of them. But celebrities also had fun dressing up, proving that adhering to a black tie dress code can still result in a vibrant and fresh look.
At the Tonys last night, the standouts were those who strayed from traditional glam and experimented. Cynthia Erivo wore a white haute couture dress by Giambattista Valli with a fitted waist and an integrated hooded cape. Ariana DeBose wore a black sequin Boss dress with a high slit and a plunging neckline. Both felt lofty enough for such an awards ceremony, but also modern and not too serious.
Elsewhere, many celebrities rely on a high dose of color. At a Bulgari event in Paris, Anne Hathaway lit up the step and repeat in a bright yellow Valentino ensemble, complete with an extra long shirt coat and shorts. Zendaya attended the Time 100 Gala wearing a vintage Bob Mackie dress in shades of blue and teal. It was almost as if this well-dressed crew were officially ringing in the summer. The more shades, the better!
