Disney's Snow White (2025) has sparked heated debate in the entertainment industry and added a new level of complexity to the company's storied history.
Directed by Marc Webb and featuring an all-star cast including Rachel Zegler as Snow White, Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen and Andrew Burnap as Jonathan, the film was originally scheduled for release this month. However, in light of the SAG-AFTRA strikes and growing criticism, Disney decided to postpone the premiere for a full year, pushing it back to March 21, 2025. While some reports suggest the decision was made solely because of the strikes, there are other insiders who believe the backlash from millions of fans had more to do with it than anything else.

In a poignant reflection, Zach and Tori Roloff, well-known personalities from the reality TV series Little People, Big World, shared their perspective on the film's adaptation and the controversial decision to use CGI for the dwarves. Zach Roloff, who has achondroplasia himself, highlighted the missed opportunities for true inclusion and representation and lamented the loss of potential roles for people with dwarfism. He argued for a more progressive approach and suggested that the Seven Dwarfs narrative could be reinterpreted without perpetuating stereotypes.
“These are jobs that were taken away from them,” Zach said. “This is an opportunity for her to be added to a Disney resume.”
Zach said that Disney could have updated the film in other ways.
“So they’re being progressive by updating Snow White. Be progressive by updating the dwarves,” Zach said. “You could tell the story of the seven dwarves without putting them in a cave, without making everything magical, and without a few hermits mining in the wilderness.”

Additionally, Zach emphasized the empowering nature of visibility, acknowledging the complexities of representation on screen while underscoring the importance of representation in media.
“Even though some people might say, 'You're not portrayed properly,' there are still segments of the population that will just look at you and say, 'You're on TV.' You are amazing. That is so cool. “I respect you,” he added.
The YouTube video has since been viewed more than 77,000 times and has hundreds of comments endorsing the celebrity and his thoughts.
At the heart of the controversy are the alleged changes to the popular story. Despite the enduring legacy of the original 1937 animated masterpiece, there have been accusations that Disney was following a path of “wokeness” and deviating from tradition in favor of a more progressive narrative. Rachel Zegler's comment further fueled the flames by claiming that the portrayal of the Disney princess needs to move with the times and move beyond the antiquated notions of a rescue by a prince.

However, as the controversy continued to grow and Disney decided to postpone the film, Rachel Zegler changed the way she phrased many comments about the upcoming film. In several interviews, the actress called the Disney princess “iconic” and said that she understands that this cartoon is “popular with many” and that she “doesn't want to screw it up.”
“It was great to work with Disney to bring such an iconic fairytale to life…Of course she's an iconic Disney princess, and so a lot of those iconic beauty moments for her are still scattered throughout the film,” she told Gotham Magazine .
