It may be July, but celebrities are already ready to bring it back to school. Despite the impossibly high temperatures, stars — especially in suits and uniforms — are stacking up and looking like they’re late for Third Period geometry.
Ana de Armas became the face of this current wave of uniforms while promoting her new Netflix film The Gray Man. On Tuesday, the actress wore a Louis Vuitton-style uniform while visiting a local London radio station. Without the logo badge, it would have appeared as if de Armas had stepped out of her elite all-girls school in London during lunchtime to meet up with her 19-year-old boyfriend. Even the Constance Billiard Girls add more spice to their uniforms than this one. The pleated knee-length skirt, jacket, shirt, and tie could easily look like a costume from a movie set, but we’re still kind of into it. Swapping out the black leather boots for a pair of loafers would have best completed the schoolgirl fantasy.
Just a day later, Yara Shahidi joined in wearing a less literal version of a uniform during an appearance on Good Morning America. Shahidi wore Thom Browne (it’s hard to talk about suits and uniforms without him). While the actress didn’t wear a kilt or sweater vest, she still exuded private school vibes by wearing a double-breasted navy blue blazer dress with white detailing. Underneath, Shahidi wore a sheer white button down dress that peeked out from under the blazer and sleeves. She finished off her look with the kind of shoes we wish we’d seen from de Armas – a pair of gray mid-calf socks (with the classic Browne double stripe) and a pair of monk-strap penny loafer heels.

Speaking of penny loafers, they’re absolutely having a moment. Bella Hadid paired them with her own version of a chic schoolgirl look last month, and earlier this week Joey King snapped a platform pair for a press stop on the Bullet Train tour. She paired her shoes with a complete Zegna look, including wide-leg pinstriped pants, a white button-down shirt and tie. All she needed was a fedora to theoretically throw in that matching ring.
But not all of these suits and uniforms need to be school-approved; They also work for extracurricular activities and jobs. Ryan Gosling proved it when he showed up for the Berlin screening of The Gray Man looking like he’d just come off his shift at his local AMC. The actor donned a head-to-toe Gucci look with a red jacket, black trousers and a skinny black tie. In our minds, he’s 19-year-old cinema porter de Armas, who sneaks into a meeting between lunch and biology (the blond Ken hair probably helps with that narrative), his work uniform makes him seem more grown-up when he walks in. In fact, he only has graduated last year.

That’s all to say it might be time to dig out your old prep school kilt (or invest in a new pleated skirt if you’ve been lucky enough to avoid compulsory schooling). While you’re at it, grab a pair of penny loafers and a good tie because classes are official.
