The rain plan for Prabal Gurung’s all-outdoor show at Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms State Park at the tip of Roosevelt Island? Continue with the performance.
Upon arrival, guests were handed clear umbrellas and production staff wiped away the light rain that fell on the benches where guests including Maddie Ziegler, Awkwafina and Lori Harvey waited for the runway to start. Venus Williams, in a sequined look, hid under the trees that flanked the triangular green space bisected by a gleaming gold runway.
As the first model appeared, guests continued to stream in. Padma Lakshmi was able to capture the final looks and walk as well as Gurung’s post-show run through the drizzle, which was captured by a low-flying drone following close behind.
“I wear his clothes, I love his clothes,” “And Just Like That” star Sarita Choudhury said after the show, as the designer held court at the bottom of the steps leading to the park. “It was so hectic today – I’m so impressed. To me, drama is amazing. The fact that it was raining, there was traffic, and it took two whole hours to get here: that’s fashion.”
