Alec Baldwin’s ‘Rust’ Movie Tragedy: Celebrities React

Express your condolences. Celebrities and filmmakers used social media to send their love to the family of Halyna Hutchins, who died in an accidental shooting on the set of Rust.

While filming at Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico on Thursday, October 21, Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun that killed the 42-year-old cameraman and the injured director Joel Souza. Both Hutchins and Souza, 48, received medical treatment following the incident.

Hutchins was pronounced dead at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, while Souza was taken to the Christ St. Vincent Regional Medical Center. The Crown Vic director was released from hospital on Friday, October 22nd, according to the deadline. Production of the film has ceased and the set is currently closed.

Baldwin first commented on the incident on Friday. “There are no words to express my shock and grief over the tragic accident in which Halyna Hutchins, a woman, mother, and deeply admired colleague of ours, lost her life,” wrote the 63-year-old 30-rock alum in a statement posted on Twitter Instagram. “I am fully cooperating with the police investigation to clarify how this tragedy occurred and I am in contact with her husband and offer my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, her son and everyone who knew and loved Halyna. “

Juan Rios, a spokesman for the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department, said the actor “came in voluntarily” to speak to investigators, adding that the incident was being treated like “any other investigation.”

After shooting Shannon Lee, Brandon Lee’s sister, spoke about the tragedy. Brandon, son of Bruce Lee, died in 1993 at the age of 28 after a similar incident on the set of The Crow.

“Our hearts go out to the family of Halyna Hutchins and Joel Souza and everyone who was involved in the incident on Rust,” she wrote on Brandon’s official Twitter account, which she operates. “No one should ever be killed by a gun on a movie set. Period.”

The film-producing company Rust Movie Productions LLC also released a statement following the incident on Thursday. “The entire cast and crew are absolutely devastated by today’s tragedy and we send our deepest condolences to Halyna’s family and their loved ones,” the statement said. “We have indefinitely suspended production of the film and are fully cooperating with the Santa Fe Police investigation. We will offer counseling services to everyone involved with the film while we work to come to terms with this horrific event. “
