As absurd and ridiculous as it may sound, many Bollywood actors have received death threats for the roles/characters they have portrayed on screen and for the films they have made.

1. Shah Rukh Khan

Amid the raging Pathaan controversy, Ayodhya Seer Paramhans Acharya has openly threatened to kill Shah Rukh Khan. He said if he sees him he will burn him alive. “Today we burned his posters. The film Pathhan offended the saffron color. If I find Jihad Shah Rukh Khan anywhere, I will burn him alive.”

The controversy erupted after the release of the song Besharam Rang from the film, which features Deepika Padukone in a saffron bikini. The song has been accused of hurting religious sentiments. Many have even pointed out a line from the song that says: Besharam Rang kaha dekha duniya walon ne.

During the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, originally titled Padmavati, Deepika Padukone had faced similar death threats from Rajput band Karni Sena. The municipality had threatened to behead the actress and chop off her nose. It even announced a price for it.

Not only Deepika Padukone, but also Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who was reportedly beaten by a member of Karni Sena, also received death threats. Haryana’s BJP chief media coordinator Suraj Pal Amu had announced a Rs 10 crore bounty for the beheading of the actress and filmmaker.

4. Vivek Agnihotri

One of the highest-grossing films of 2022 also sparked a lot of controversy. Vivek Agnihotri said he received threats after the film’s release. He was consulted for portraying characters in the film. “I can’t go out. I’m a social person. I can’t meet my own family. My entire movement is restricted…this is so unfortunate,” he was quoted as saying by PTI.

Nawab Satpal Tanwar, who is reportedly the founder and national president of Akhil Bhartiya Bhim Sena of Gurugram, had threatened to kill Richa Chadha and announced a reward for hacking her tongue.
