The event's theme was “Sleeping Beauty: Fashion Resurgent,” inspired by the Costume Institute's exhibition that showcases “precious masterpieces of fashion,” many of which cannot be worn due to their delicate nature, Vogue announced in November 2023.
The dress code for the event was “The Garden of Time,” inspired by JG Ballard's 1962 short story of the same name. Ahead of the event, Vogue reported that attendees' looks would feature floral details and archival pieces, which many did.
