The child star grew up as one of seven children and was managed by his father, the notoriously tough Kit Culkin. “I was making God knows how much money and Kit let me sleep on the couch just because he could,” he told New York Magazine.
When his parents’ difficult divorce proceedings began, he decided it would be easier to remove both parents’ names from his accounts to prevent his father from getting the lion’s share of the money.
“Basically I had millions and millions of dollars in the bank and my mom couldn’t pay the rent because she was spending all her money on lawyers,” says Culkin. “We were about to evict our apartment. The only way I could get the money was to take my dad’s name off it, but I didn’t want to mess it up, so I thought I’d take both of their names off,” he said.
It doesn’t look like the two have spoken since then.
