It shows a knowledge of how people learn, coupled with an understanding of the importance of how that process relates to the subject matter at hand. I used to tutor a lot of people to pay my way through school. Thing is, I could tutor many subjects I had no knowledge in because, as I used to say to people who wondered how it was possible to do that: " I tutor the person, not the subject." People who consider themselves 'bad' at a subject, often times think it's the content they're having trouble with when in reality it is usually a core belief or beliefs about the subject matter or themselves that is the issue and many times it's that no one recognizes how staggeringly different the strategies that two people's mind approach the exact same subject matter. We need to be philosophers first...at least understand we have a philosophy whether we know it or not. Here is a good example. Take someone who has a core belief -- philosophy-- to not trust government. They would have had a hard time trading the past couple of years given the inordinate amount of influence government policies have had on the markets (S&P up nearly 100% off the lows following the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 signed by the then new president in late Feb of that year (aka QEI) Hi Andy,

This is a powerful article for anyone that chooses to sit up and take notice of what it's saying. My simple-minded take is that as traders we are also philosophers. The difference is that we put our money where our mouth is! Wow. This is a powerful article for anyone that chooses to sit up and take notice of what it’s saying.
